Of Dead Animals and Other Smells....
There is a dead animal in my office building. Specifically, there is a dead bird in the kitchen of my office. I know this because 3 days ago it was a live bird.
My office is a renovated house. Its a pretty old house--at least 50 years old, I've been told. I actually know a lady who's grandparents lived in it before it was bought by the church. I think I have said this in a previous blog, but my office area is located in the dining room of the 'house'. Its got its perks, such as the nice bay window that gives me a lot of natural light (which I like) and a view of the outside world.
Two days ago, we noticed there was a bird trapped in the florescent light "ceiling" in the kitchen. How it got in, no one knows, but it really was no surprise to anyone, given the..uh..condition of the house. So, the proper employees were called who take care of that sort of thing, and we were informed that no one was available at that time to come and "free the bird". And so, the poor creature could be heard flapping around frantically. I turned off the light in the kitchen, b/c they can get pretty hot, and I wanted to spare the bird additional discomfort. Anyway....I guess this was Monday. Fast forward to today......no one came to get the bird......there is lovely bird dooky all over the lights in the kitchen.....there are no more bird flapping sounds.....when we walked in the office there was a lovely smell of something dead.....the smell has gotten worse as the day progresses....
Oh, and last week, a skunk decided to take up temporary residence underneath the house.....let me tell you I had an upset stomach from the smell THAT day (and the day after that....and the day after that...._). Thankfully, he moved on (he probably got grossed out by the smell of the dead bird.....)...
:) Oh Happy Day!!! :)
5 Sagacious Sayings:
LOL! I know....maybe I should have added an advisory at the beginning..."Warning: Appetite surpressing subjuct. Do not attempt to read until at least 2 hours after eating."...
Sarah...at least its not flying squirrels. You've had your fill of those!!!!
AHHH!!! Do NOT get me started on flying squirrels!!! Evil, Evil beasts! Vile creatures from the fiery inferno! I STILL have nightmares... [ok...so..not really]
hrmmm...i'm trying to wrap my little mind around which would be worse...dead bird or skunk. me thinks skunk, but then i always forget how bad the "death" smell is until i smell it again.
UPDATE ON DEAD BIRD:
Two guys from our WONDERFUL maintenance department found and disposed of said rotting carcass. YIPPEE! Smell still lingers at this time, but hope remains for a stink free tomorrow......
