Influenza

I recently began reading a rather facinating book about the flu. Its titled FLU: The Story of the Great Influenza Pandemic of 1918 and the Search for the Virus That Caused It, by Gina Kolata. Yeah, that whole thing is the title. And the title really tells it all. The whole book talks about the little known Influenza Pandemic that killed more than 20 million people worldwide in a few months time in 1918, and all they tried to do to figure out the virus [gross stuff, let me tell you! :P].

Surprisingly it has been quite a page turner. I didn't think I would be able to get into it, but I am hooked. As I said before, its facinating. More Americans were killed by that Flu Pandemic than were killed in battle during World War 1, World War 2, The Korean War and the Vietnam War. WOW.
They said that many of the soldiers in World War 1 who were said to have been killed in battle actually died from that particular flu virus.

If you are interested, I highly recommend reading it. But don't take my word for it [dun, duh, daa! .....think "Reading Rainbow"....]

That actually sounds interesting. In High School, I read "The Hot Zone" - the real live, true story about the Ebola virus and how it was discovered and actually came to the US. It's what the move "Outbreak" was based on. You should give that one a try.

I've heard of that book, it sounded interesting... i guess it is. I've also read "The Hot Zone" and it was good, you should check it out.
p.s. I really, really hated The Reading Rainbow when I was a kid. Plus I always wondered why he didn't have his visor thing from Star Trek on, so I always pictured him with it on. :)
