Gulf Coast Relief
This next week I will be in Slidell, LA as part of a Disaster Relief Team. I leave from Chickendale EARLY tomorrow [Saturday] morning, and won't return home until the following Saturday. There will be no computer, no internet, no blogging. I can handle it.....can you?? ;) haha.
Our team will mostly be 'mudding out' homes [and possibly churches], a new term I recently learned. This consists of exactly what it sounds like.....shoveling mud out of homes, tearing out wet drywall, and other similar jobs. It will be hot, physically taxing work. I am excited to have the opportunity to help in this way. I actually enjoy getting the chance to do actual physical labor once in a while. It does the body good.....or something....
I am also very excited to have the opportunity to serve and love on the residents of Slidell by helping them get their homes salvaged [as much as possible]. In serving them, I will have the opportunity to share Jesus with them, both through my actions and through words.
Please pray for my team. There will be about 12-15 of us going this week. Pray for safety while we travel and are working in the houses [mold will be a BIG issue]. Pray for strength and stamina and we work long hours. Pray that we will be sensitive to those in the community we serve and minister to, and that the Lord will give us wisdom in all situations. Pray for the people of Slidell as they work to restore their city and their homes. Pray that God will do a mighty work in restoring their lives, and that many will turn to Him and recieve healing and salvation through Jesus Christ.
